Emily Scarratt to captain England against Canada
Pro Rugby Coach’s Emily Scarratt will captain England Women in a re-match of last year’s World Cup final against Canada in the Rugby Super Series in Edmonton tonight.
Scarratt scored 16 points in that famous win in Paris that saw England become World champions with a 21-9 win over tonight’s opponents.
She switches from centre to full-back for the game which follows on from a win over the USA and defeat to New Zealand.
England Head Coach Simon Middleton praised Scarratt’s outstanding leadership qualities and said she had the full trust and support of the group.
“Emily will take over as captain from Sarah Hunter and that was one of the reason’s she was vice-captain for the game against New Zealand,” he said.
“She has great leadership qualities, the players listen to her and she has great game understanding so I am sure she’ll make a big impression in this new role.”
Scarratt will be discussing tonight’s game, qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympics in England’s Sevens team and the new content she is producing for Pro Rugby Coach when she hosts a webinar at the end of this month.
She will be joined by Worcester Warriors’ backs coach, Sam Vesty on Friday July 24 at 7.30 for the live event which is available for all subscribers.
